Albert Summers, age 87, resident of Agricola, MS, passed away on April 10, 2024 at home. Albert was born May 19, 1936 in Wayne County, MS. He is the son of Albert James and Clara Dell Summers and was raised by John and Lavonia (Dearman) Cooley and in his elementary years, by Walter Hand and Lavonia.

Albert graduated from Basin High School in 1956, where he drove the school bus for a while. In the spring of 1959, he was drafted into the army and sent to basic training at Ft Jackson, South Carolina. While on leave, he married Jeanene Brown Summers on April 6, 1959. They were stationed in Spokane, Washington. Albert was a rifleman in the color guard unit, often being sent on assignment to parades and ceremonies.

Upon discharge from the army, Albert and Jeanene moved back to Agricola. He began working back at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula where he was an electrician by trade. Building their home in 1964, they moved in with their newborn son Mitchel that same year. In 1967, their daughter Sandy was born. Over the years he would work at various jobs, such as Lambert Equipment in Leakesville, B.E. &K, Brown & Root contracting companies inside of International Paper Co., Chevron, and even in Jay, Maine. He worked for Floore Industrial Contractors in Moss Point and finally for Tubular Structures, his son Mitchel's company, for 15 years. As a farmer, he especially enjoyed raising beef cattle.

Albert attended Agricola Baptist Church and in later years was involved with the Sunday School breakfast program, which fed the people who were picked up on the van. Albert was a devoted husband, married to Jeanene for 65 years, dad, granddaddy, and great granddad. He was especially proud of all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Colby, Bayli, Anna, Amia, Felicity, and Heidi. He will be missed.

Albert is survived by: his loving wife, Jeanene Summers; son, Mitchel (Tonya) Summers; daughter, Sandy Summers (Jeff) Morrison; brother, JV (Dot) Summers; grandchildren: Colby (Miranda) Summers, Bayli (Zach) Stegman, Anna Morrison, and Amia Morrison; great grandchildren: Felicity and Heidi Stegman; several special nieces, nephews, family members, church family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by: parents: Albert James and Clara Dell Summers; parents who raised him: John Cooley and Lavonia Dearman Cooley Hand, then Walter Hand; siblings: Flora (Vardia) Brewer, JM (Dean) Summers, and Alice (Carter) Brewer.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 12:00pm at Agricola Baptist Church, 7268 Barton Agricola Road Lucedale, MS.

Calling hours will be on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Agricola Baptist Church, 7268 Barton Agricola Road Lucedale, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Agricola Baptist Church building fund.
