Annie Ruth Thigpen, 86, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026. She was born on July 11, 1940, to Ernest and Rhoda McLeod Pipkins.

On June 12, 1968, Annie Ruth married the love of her life, James Ray Thigpen. They shared 36 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on November 1, 2004.

Annie Ruth was a lifelong believer in the value of education and service. She graduated from Rocky Creek High School before attending Belhaven University. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. She devoted 30 years to shaping young lives as an elementary school teacher at Rocky Creek Elementary School, where she faithfully served until her retirement. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, and she was loved and respected by generations of students, fellow educators, and families.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Annie Ruth was a charter member of The First Presbyterian Church of Lucedale, where she faithfully served as an Elder, Pianist, and Clerk of the Session for many years. She was also a lifetime member of The Presbyterian Women and served on numerous committees within the Presbytery of Mississippi.

Dedicated to her community, Annie Ruth served on the Board of Directors of the George County Farm Bureau and was an active member of the George County Historical Society and the Retired Education Personnel of Mississippi.

Annie Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Rhoda McLeod Pipkins, and by her beloved husband, James Ray Thigpen.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a host of cousins, neighbors, former students, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, wisdom, faith, and unwavering dedication to serving others.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, 11:00AM at Sigler Funeral Home in Lucedale, Mississippi. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Greene County, Mississippi.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Sigler Funeral Home.

The service will be officiated by Reverend John Dudley, Reverend Philip Williams, and Mr. Danny Box.

Pallbearers will be Doug McLeod, Jason Read, Doug Pipkins, Darrell Pipkins, Matthew Rutherford, and Chris Fallon.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Rutherford, Marion McLeod, Don Smith, Roy Jenkins, and Russell Rutherford.

Though Annie Ruth's earthly journey has ended, her legacy of faith, education, service, and love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
