Ben Dewain Hinton, age 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 2, 2026, following a short illness. Ben was born on October 30, 1934, to Luther and Florence Jones Hinton. He came from a large family of 12 children and was raised in Harleston, Mississippi where the family had a farm and raised dairy cows.

He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. As a young man, he served in the National Guard for two tours. He was a welder and pipe fitter and for a few years, he owned a dump truck business, but his favorite job was raising cattle.

He never met a stranger. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed telling old tales and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his loving children: daughter, Chandra (Carl) Larson, son, Tab (Cathy) Hinton, and daughter, Terri (Gerald) Smith; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he was so proud of them. His greatest joy was when they would come to visit. He thought they were all beautiful and was often heard saying, "There's not an ugly one in the bunch"! He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Lillie Sanderson and Gay Jones and his dear brother, Charles Hinton, who shared many adventures with him during their childhood, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bettye (Parden) Hinton, his parents, Luther and Florence Hinton, as well as his sisters, Margie, Irma, Nadine, Rachel, and Vera, and his brothers, Buck, Wayne, and Tom.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 202 New Hope Church Rd., Agricola, MS 39452. Interment will follow in New Hope Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
