Bettie Mosley was born in Carthage, MS on September 13, 1928. She was the third of four children
born to Jim and Addie Mae Scott. She grew up on a farm in the small community of Free Trade in
Leake County, MS. Her older brother, James nicknamed her Buggy.
She attended school in Standing Pine, then graduated from Walnut Grove High school. After
graduating from East Central Junior College in 1949, she taught elementary school while attending MS
Southern College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1952.
She then worked as an Assistant Home Demonstration Agent for Neshoba County where she met and
married Wayland Mosley on August 14,1954 in Philadelphia MS.
In the fall of 1957, they moved to Lucedale where their daughter Marcia was born on November 26,
1959.
She served George County as Home Demonstration Agent/Home Economist for 26 years. She
attended numerous national conventions and won many Extension Service awards. She retired from
Extension on October 1, 1983 with 30.5 years of service.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lucedale and Vernal Presbyterian Church
where she held many church offices.
She was a long time member of Lucedale Garden Club. She loved flowers, and working in her yard.
After retirement, Bettie volunteered for many service positions with Friends of the Library, Habitat
for Humanity, AARP, American Cancer Society, ect. She always wanted to be of service to others.
Even in her later years, she'd ask "what have I done for humanity today."
Bettie loved God, her family, her extended family, her friends, her community. She rarely ever met a
stranger. She welcomed everyone into her circle, and into her life.
After retirement she traveled all over the world. When asked what her favorite trip was, she readily
said Belize. (where she went on three missions to teach the women how to can their food.) When asked
why that was her favorite trip, she replied, "because I went there to help people."

She's survived by her daughter, Marcie Mosley Green, several nieces and nephews, and caregiver. Kailey Havard.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayland Wyatt Mosley, parents Jim and Addie Mae Scott,
sister, Christine Scott Jarrell, and brothers James Scott and Bill Scott.
The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Sigler Funeral Home, 4248 Main St., Lucedale,
MS.  Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Lucedale following the service
Calling hours will be Friday, June 9, 2023 from 10:00-11:00am at Sigler Funeral Home, 4248 Main St.,
Lucedale, MS.
