David Paul Cowart, Sr, 81, gained his Heavenly wings in the comfort of his own home on January 27, 2020. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Wiley Cowart, mother, Willow Tanner Cowart, and his beautiful daughter, Carolyn Cowart Elsteroth.

He is survived by his wife Janice of 36 years, daughters, Becky (Brent) Morris of Mason, OH and Lindsay (Jonathan) Holder of Lee's Summit, MO, a son, David Paul (Lisa) Cowart, Jr. of Seattle, WA, and a brother, Joseph Cowart of Lucedale, MS, three beautiful granddaughters: Isabelle Soto, Gaby Soto and Willow Holder, son-in-law David B. Elsteroth of Houma, LA and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Paul was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was co-owner and CEO of Cowart Equipment Company until his retirement. He previously served as Alderman at Large for the City of Lucedale and was on the Board of Directors of Century Bank for fifty years. Paul graduated from the University of Mississippi with a BS degree in education. He loved sports, especially football. Paul played football for the Ole Miss Rebels from 1956-1960. His favorite professional team was the Dallas Cowboys. He spent his free time playing golf, playing his guitar, watching sports and old Westerns on TV.

Visitation will be from 10:00am to12:00pm at First Baptist Church Lucedale on Thursday, January 30, 2020. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm with Rev. Eddie Davidson and Rev. Hal Bates officiating. A moment of reflection for his daughter Carolyn Elsteroth will be part of the services. Interment will be at Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to be made to St. Jude or the George County Distinguished Young Women Program.
