David Barnell McKissick, Sr., age 88, of Lucedale passed away Monday, May 22, 2023 at home in Lucedale.  Rev. McKissick was born April 27, 1935 in Meridian, MS. He is the son of the late James Archibald and the late Annie Lee Lucille (Chapman) McKissick.  He married Dorothy Stuart on July 21, 1954; she preceded him in death on November 12, 2014.

Rev. McKissick was ordained as a minister of the gospel in the year 1962. He was a man of great faith. He loved God with all of his heart and loved all things godly. His greatest love was attending church and if you didn't see him heading to church, you saw him heading home from church. He drove many miles to visit in revivals, as the things of God's kingdom were always the first thought of his heart.

Rev. McKissick had the honor of serving as the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ, Gulf Coast District, Foreign Missions Director and later served as their superintendent for many years. He pastored Geiger Road Apostolic Church for 15 years and served as bishop for 10.

He was a man called by God to step out on those difficult "limbs" of faith. God not only knew if he asked him to do crazy things that took crazy faith, that he had sons, daughters, grands, and a host of believers that not only believed in him-they believed in his God of the miraculous!

Many churches were formed, transformed, and set in place by his ability to "Just do it" faith!

He didn't question God's provision, he didn't put cost to paper, he knew that a work needed to be done and his God would provide. There was never a task he took, that wasn't backed up by his God.

He gave and he loved to bless people. He gave at times when he had nothing to give; his heart loved the act of giving. He saw the need and gave from his very lean supply.

Some of the greatest miracles His family has ever witnessed were from Br. McKissick going out on that "limb" of sacrificial giving.

He loved people. You saw it in his happy face when his friends gathered around his table.

He loved those that had absolutely nothing to give him in return for late nights of counsel, putting food on their table, holding them when they were destitute, and the list can go on and on.

His conversation was always about the message. He spoke of prayer like it was a good friend, and was. His bible was always within arm's length and worn from daily use.

He was fond of mischief and loved happy laughter.

His greatest accomplishment was leaving behind a legacy to family that minister the gospel, a church family that are strong in faith from his teachings, and many souls that are saved because of his hands that reached out.

He is survived by four daughters, Kristy (Tim) Peace, Sue (Fred) Crutchfield, Cindy (Mike) Beck and Liz (Johnny) Smith; seven sons, David (Rita) McKissick, Stevie (Kerry) McKissick, Tom (Pam) McKissick, Phillip (Glenda) McKissick, Paul (Tammy) McKissick, Tim (Denise) McKissick and John (Casandra) McKissick; 34 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren;  two sisters, Joyce Weaver and Juanita (David) Gooch; one brother, Dan (Patricia) McKissick; many nieces and nephews

Predeceased by his wife Dorothy McKissick; parents, James and Annie McKissick; grandchildren, Keith McKissick, Angel McKissick, and Tate McKissick; brothers, Charles McKissick Sr. and Bro. Joseph McKissick Sr.

The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Geiger Apostolic Church, 116 Geiger Road, Lucedale, MS with Rev. Kemp Cole, Rev. Johnny Williams and Rev. Jerry Hamilton officiating.  Burial will be in Dorothy's Memorial Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 6:00pm-9:00pm at Geiger Apostolic Church, 116 Geiger Road, Lucedale, MS.
