Hartsel Floyd McCowan, age 83, of Escatawpa, MS, passed away February 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 29, 1938, in George County, MS.  He graduated from Lucedale High School. Hartsel was a member of Family Life Church in Escatawpa, MS. He was a devoted husband, dedicated father and loving Pawpaw. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after working there for 34 years as an outside machinist. He had many hobbies including gardening and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Virginia McCowan; children, Matthew (Shirley Renee) McCowan of Hurley, MS, and Amy (Bobby) Gopffarth of Biloxi, MS; grandchildren, Mitchell McCowan, Mitzi McCowan, Brady Gopffarth, and Chase Gopffarth; great-granddaughter, Aidan Estelle Marshall; cousin, Mrs. Edwina Penney of Birmingham, AL, (niece of Hartsel's father, Floyd Hartsel McCowan); nephew, Jeffrey Lynn McCall; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Hartsel McCowan, of Birmingham, AL, and Winnie Lee Breland Parker of Lucedale, MS; maternal grandparents, Ray Bell Davis Breland and Riley Eugene Breland; paternal grandparents, Thomas H. (Minnie Bailey) McCowan; sister, Janice (Roger) McCowan Black of Texas; niece, Sheila McCall; aunt, Nora Mae Breland King.

The Visitation for Hartsel Floyd McCowan will be Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Sigler Funeral Home, 4248 Main St., Lucedale, MS 39452. The Funeral Service will follow beginning at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Archie Holley officiating.  Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Mitchell McCowan, Mitzi McCowan, Joshua Davis, Jared Davis, Robert Lee Miller, Jackie Lee Miller, Terry Ray Miller, Rodney Lee Simpson, and Jeffrey Lynn McCall. Honorary Pallbearers are Darrell Robertson, Brady Gopffarth, and Chase Gopffarth
