Jeanette Harris Bufkin, age 99, of Lucedale passed away Thursday December 29, 2022. She was born July 3, 1923 near Grove Hill in Clarke County, Alabama to the late Marshall and Sarah Elizabeth Harris. She moved to Mobile, Alabama at a young age and attended Barton Academy and Murphy High School. Jeanette worked as a bookkeeper in Mobile and later in Lucedale before opening the Carriage House women's clothing store.

On September 4, 1949, she married James Cecil Bufkin, who preceded her in death on August 13, 2002. She was the last survivor of six siblings.

She is survived by a daughter, Jan Bufkin of Washington, D.C.; son, Eddie Bufkin (Stacey) of Fairhope, Alabama; grandchildren, Victoria Justesen (Brandon) of Fairhope, Pierce Bufkin (Lauren) of Dallas, Texas, Lillie Bufkin of Washington, D.C., and Cecily Bufkin of Washington, D.C.; two great-grandchildren.

Jeanette and Cecil were loyal and active members of First Baptist Church of Lucedale all of their married lives. They served in many roles. Jeanette led the prayer ministry for many years.

The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Sigler Funeral Home, 4248 Main St., Lucedale, MS with Brother Eddie Davidson and Rev. Ken McCormick officiating.  Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Lucedale, MS.
