Jerald Edwin Read, age 80, of Lucedale passed away Friday, May 24, 2024. Mr. Read was born February 8, 1944 in Lucedale, MS. He is the son of the late James Fletcher and the late Juanita (Horn) Read. He married Joyce Ann Davis.

He was employed by Ingalls Shipbuilders as a general ship superintendent.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Ann (Davis) Read; two sons: Paul (Tonya) Edwin Read and Scott (Karie) Gregory Read; sister: Dot (Terry) Langham; brother: Gene (Hilda) Read; son-in-law, Robert Kirkwood; sister-in-law, Margaret Smith; seven grandchildren: Brandon Kirkwood, Drew (Lauren) Kirkwood, Jessica (Reid) Brown, Kaitlyn (JR) Donnelly, Carley Read, Lauren (Hayden) Lemberger, Emily (Trey) Hoyt; three great grandchildren: Noah Kirkwood, Daniel Kirkwood, and Rhett Kirkwood; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Predeceased by his parents, Fletcher and Juanita Read; daughter, Kathy Kirkwood; three brothers: Fred (Barbara) Read, Jimmy (Sue) Read, and Bobby Read.

The funeral will be held 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 12153 Hwy 613, Lucedale, MS with Rev. Mike Jemison and Rev. Alan Eubanks officiating.  Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Lucedale, MS.

Calling hours will be Sunday, May 26, 2024 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 12153 Hwy 613, Lucedale, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Union Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund.

Pallbearers will include: Phillip Read, David Read, John Read, Travis Read, Timmy Read, Jason Read, Judd Langham, and Colby Langham.
