Jessie Underwood Jr., age 83, of Lucedale, passed away peacefully at his home on September 20, 2026.

Jessie was born on November 30, 1942, in Premier, West Virginia, to Jessie and Daisey Underwood. A proud patriot, Jessie proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was deeply honored by his military service and carried that pride throughout his life.

After his military service, Jessie devoted many years to serving his community. He retired from Singing River Electric after 30 years of dedicated service. He also served two terms as an Alderman for the City of Lucedale and two terms as Justice Court Judge for George County. Through each of these roles, Jessie worked to make a positive difference in the community he loved.

Jessie was an active member of First Church of Lucedale and was involved in numerous community and civic activities. He was a member and Past Master of Lucedale R.P. Bowen Lodge and was a Shriner and charter member of Jappa Temple. His commitment to service extended far beyond his professional life, and he gave generously of his time and talents to the betterment of Lucedale and George County.

Beyond all of his accomplishments, Jessie was first and foremost a devoted husband, daddy, and Pa. He and his beloved wife, Brenda Marshall Underwood, shared many wonderful and fun-filled years together, enjoying life and making memories. Jessie loved the outdoors, sports, traveling, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He had a way of making the people around him feel welcome and valued, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jessie is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Underwood; his children, Dawn (Todd) Moody of Lucedale, Bo (Laura) Underwood of Biloxi, Beverly (Robert) Webb of Lucedale, and Ronnie (Kelly) Underwood of Lucedale; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and his brother-in-law, Buddy (Marsha) Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Daisey Underwood; his parents-in-law, Ray and Myrtle Lee Marshall; one sister; and seven brothers.

Jessie will be remembered as a man of strong will and determination.  He lived life to the fullest, his way.  He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services celebrating Jessie's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2026 in the chapel of Sigler Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday also at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shriner's Children's Hospital in his honor.
