JoAnn McBay Weaver, 95, of Lucedale, Mississippi, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and service that touched generations of her community. Born December 29, 1930, JoAnn was a lifelong resident of Lucedale, where she built a remarkable career and a life defined by hard work and devotion to others.

JoAnn began her education at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where she earned an Associate of Arts degree in Secretarial Science. She went on to make history as the first woman to graduate from the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University in 1955, a groundbreaking achievement that reflected her determination and pioneering spirit.

JoAnn's career in banking began on July 1, 1950, when she was hired as a bookkeeper by Mr. Doug Luce, Sr. at The Bank of Lucedale, now known as Century Bank. Mr. Luce became a cherished mentor to her, and JoAnn often spoke of the profound influence he had on her life and career. Over the course of nearly five decades, she rose through the ranks, ultimately retiring in December 1997 as Senior Vice President. JoAnn considered her colleagues at the bank to be family, and the relationships she built there remained among the most treasured of her life.

Her excellence in banking and business did not go unnoticed. In 1997, she was honored as Business Woman of the Year, and in1998 she was recognized as a Gulf Coast Woman of Achievement. She also served as the Mississippi State Chair for the National Association of Bank Women, further cementing her reputation as a trailblazer and leader in her field.

Even after retirement, JoAnn's commitment to service never waned. She dedicated countless hours as a "Pink Lady" volunteer at George Regional Hospital, where she contributed to numerous hospital improvement projects and offered comfort and support to patients during some of their most difficult times.

JoAnn was a lifelong member of the First Church of Lucedale, where she faithfully served as secretary/treasurer for many years. She served on numerous church committees and supported all church activities without hesitation, embodying the same dedication and steadfast service that defined every part of her life.

Beyond her professional and community accomplishments, JoAnn was perhaps best known and best loved for her famous pound cakes. Over the years, she baked and gave away well over 2,000 of them, keeping careful count on paper, and sharing her gift with family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who needed a little sweetness in their day. Her pound cakes became a beloved tradition and a testament to her generous heart.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.S.

McBay; her husband of 49 years, Milford A. Weaver; her daughter, Christine Danehower; her granddaughter, Miranda Weaver; and her sisters, Syble Bryan, Pansy Cole, and Jimmy Bradley.

She is survived by her son, Craig (Renee) Weaver, and son-in-law, Joel Danehower. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jessica (Joshua) Weaver, Erin (Auston) Weaver, Drew (Haley) Weaver, and Brody Weaver, Joella (Brian) Das, Mary Elizabeth (Taylor) Hancock, and Emily (Calvin) Danehower; her great-grandchildren, Peyton and Hanna Grant, Stratton Jackson and Rynlee Weaver, and Lane and Levi Weaver; her nieces and nephews, Gene (Marcia) Pollock, Carol Bryan, Cliff Bryan, and Anne (Jeff) Owens; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

JoAnn McBay Weaver's life was one of quiet strength, professional excellence, and heartfelt generosity. She will be remembered as a pioneer, a mentor to many, and a beloved friend to all who knew her. Her legacy of service and dedication will continue to inspire the Lucedale community for years to come.
