John Clifton "JL" Leggett Jr, 73, of Lucedale, MS was called home on Tuesday, February 14th, 2023. He was at home surrounded by family and friends. He worked at Ingalls Shipyard as a shipfitter supervisor. After leaving Ingalls he took up farming, hauling cattle and working at Lucedale Livestock. These were some of the best years of his life. Johnny was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Some of his favorite things were spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time on the water, feeding his fish, listening to gospel music, and maintaining the farm.

Johnny is preceded in death by parents, Clifton and Dorothy Leggett; sisters, Renee Leggett, Paula Leggett, Dessie Leggett and Janice Grant; Father in law, Winifred Freeman; Mother in law, Annie Mae Freeman; brothers in law, Tommy Freeman, Billy Freeman, Terry Freeman and Terry Rackard; Sisters in law, Sherry Freeman and Nell Rackard.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Shirley Leggett, whom  he loved with all his heart; two daughters, Missy Helton and Amy (Ryan) Bounds; three grandchildren, Madyson, Jacie and Brady Bounds; Brother, Stephen (Susan) Leggett; Brothers in law, Elwood Grant, Lecil (Alice) Freeman, Carl (Donna) Freeman, Earl (Dianna) Freeman, Larry (Judy) Freeman and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Roland Cochran, Moley Herring, Mike Courtney, Matt Mitchell, Roberto "Beto" Salas, Steven High. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Davis and Marshall Stevens.

The funeral will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 1:00pm at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 14170 Hwy 98 Lucedale, MS with Rev. Josh Parnell and Rev. Curtis Leggett officiating.  Burial will be in Rocky Creek Cemetery, Lucedale, MS.

Calling hours will be Friday, February 17, 2023 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Lucedale, MS.
