Rev. John Hamlin Harper, age 70, of Lucedale died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Forrest General
Hospital of Hattiesburg, MS. Mr. Harper was born February 3, 1947 in Biloxi, MS. He is the son
of the late Paul and the late Harriet (Bilbo) Harper. He married Dorothy Faye Newell on June
10, 1967 at Fayette, MS.

John was a graduate of Millsaps College, Jackson, MS and Chandler School of Theology,
Emory University in Atlanta GA. He served in the active ministry as a Methodist Minister for 41
years. After retirement he continued to serve United Methodist Churches as needed. He had a
love for people, and he felt that he needed to continue to minister as long as he lived.

He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Faye (Newell) Harper and one daughter: Jennifer (Jeff)
Mathis of Lucedale, MS; one brother: James Harper of Brookhaven, MS; He also has two
grandchildren; grandchild, Jase Mathis of Lucedale, MS; grandchild, Jenna Mathis of Lucedale,
MS.

Predeceased by his sister, Paula Jordan of Brookhaven, MS

The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at First United Methodist of
Lucedale, 311 Main Street, Lucedale, MS with Rev. Frank Newell officiating.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 4 from 9:30am-11:00am at First United Methodist Church.
