Graveside services for Lauvania Parnell Woodard will be held at 11:00am, December 26, 2015 at
Woodard Cemetery, Lucedale, MS. Services will be officiated by Rev. John H. Harper of Grace United
Methodist Church.
The family would like to thank Sparrow Hills Personal Care Home for all that was done for our beloved
"Nanny". Your special care, comfort and unconditional love will never be forgotten.
Lauvania Parnell Woodard was born December 7, 1915, in the Merrill Community, the daughter of John
Parnell and Nora Stokes Parnell. She was predeceased by family member, including her husband, John C.
Woodard, Jr.; daughter, Johnnie Lou Harvey; and grandson John Alex Miller. She is survived by four
great-grandchildren and ten great great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Woodard was a tireless worker. Most people work to live. Not Lauvania, she absolutely lived to
work. And work she did!
She owned a grocery-store complex in the Bexley Community for twenty-five years, and when she finally
closed her store, she enrolled in college and earned her Registered Nurse Degree. Mrs. Woodard
worked as an RN until she was ninety years of age. During this time, she raised cattle, farmed, and
remodeled her homes.
Mrs. Lauvania loved attending church, her family, friends, politics and a good argument (which she
usually won.)
So, after one hundred years in George County, we say goodbye to a lady who gave much too many, and
asked little of no one. If there were more people like Lauvania Woodard in this world, it would be a
world like God intended it to be.
But for now, goodbye Lauvania Woodard. We love and honor you. "Go rest high on that mountain." You
earned it. And until we meet again, may the good Lord bless and keep you.
