Born April 20, 1945, in Greene County, Mississippi Leavy Aline Mathis, 80, died peacefully at her home on July 4, 2025. She was a long-time dedicated member of Winborn Chapel United Church where she will be laid to rest in the Winborn Chapel cemetery.  After graduating from Leakesville High School, she attended Jones County Junior College and later received her Nursing Degree in Jackson, Mississippi. She worked at Greene County Hospital as a Registered Nurse leaving to raise her family and later returned to South Mississippi Home Health retiring as the Nurse Supervisor. She then enjoyed travelling with her husband, Lavelle, across the country. She also enjoyed working in her garden and tending to her various flowers, as well as spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lavelle Mathis; son, Greg (Judy) Mathis; daughter, Angie Hobby; all residents of the Winborn Chapel community. Her loving grandsons, Zack (Maegan) Mathis and Nathan (Macie) Mathis of Lucedale. She also leaves behind her sister, Diane (LD) West of Lucedale and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Joyce Busby, and her brothers, Max Busby, Jimmy Busby, Arlin Busby and David Busby.

The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice for the exceptional care they gave during her final days, especially Kristy Arrington and Beth Parnell. As well as Tender Kare, especially Sonya Choate, Madison Byrd and Rani Harvey who took such good care of her.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Monday, July 7, 2025 at Winborn Chapel United Methodist Church, Winborn Chapel Road, Lucedale, MS with Rev. Dean Box officiating.  Burial will be in Winborn Chapel Cemetery, Leakesville, MS.

Calling hours will be Monday, July 7, 2025 from 10:00-11:00am at Winborn Chapel Methodist Church.
