Martha Pauline ("Polly") Gonzalez Orr

Polly Orr was born on September 6, 1991, in Jackson, Mississippi, and lived the majority of her life on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  She lived with her husband of seven years in Gulfport, MS.  Polly passed away on December 28, 2023, after a very sudden and tragic illness.  She was only 32 years of age.

Polly is survived by her loving husband David Paul Orr; her parents, John Stanford Gonzalez and Thea Vinson Gonzalez; her sisters Rose Gonzalez Chin and Amelia "Millie" Gonzalez; her grandmother Marlene Strait Vinson; her in-laws, David Charles Orr and Julie Ann Orr; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She is also survived by her beloved pets, Jonesy, Patti, Kameko, and Jessie.  She is pre-deceased by her grandparents Dr. Daniel Gonzalez, Martha Skinner Whitehead, and Theodore Lamar Vinson.

Polly was home-schooled growing up in Gulfport MS.  She studied web development and attained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulane University in 2016.  She was an exceptional student, was hired by a former professor for her first job, and was a successful free-lance website designer and developer.  At the time of her death, she was working as a website developer for Chelsea and Rachel Company, a national marketing and consulting firm.

Beyond her roles and titles, Polly was known to those who loved her as resilient, adventurous, witty, and deeply empathic towards others.  Polly was born with a rare craniofacial difference, but she did not let this hold her back in any way; she was simply an unstoppable force.  She was a strong Catholic and loved Jesus with her actions and words. She never judged others, but always sought the good in people.  She was passionate about learning new art forms such as playing guitar, sewing, crocheting, creating jewelry with metal working, painting, and drawing.  Polly was also a writer of short stories and novels, one of which won an award in 2010.

Polly taught others how to live and how to love. She loved humanity, in spite of the various cruelties it visited upon her. She wanted more ways to give of herself.  She loved animals of all sorts, had great compassion for others, revered St. Francis of Assisi and his non-materialism message, and enjoyed music from the 70's. She loved life and had many plans for the future. "She is clothed with strength and dignity." (Proverbs 31: 25). She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten, by her family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 8343 Woolmarket Rd Biloxi, MS 39532.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 8343 Woolmarket Rd Biloxi, MS 39532

Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Magnolia Cemetery, 328 Mill Street Lucedale, MS 39452.
