Michael Franklin McDowell, age 70, of Lucedale died Thursday, September 7, 2017 at home in Lucedale. Mr. McDowell was born June 6, 1947 in Ashland, KY. He is the son of the late Herbert and the late Dorothy (Douglas) McDowell. He married Valerie Smith.

He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a retired Baptist Minister and a U.S. Postal Worker. Mr. McDowell was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Valerie (Smith) McDowell and two daughters: Laurie Tatum of Lucedale, MS and Patricia McDowell of Lucedale, MS,; three sisters: Martha Smith of Greenup, KY, Anna Rice of Rush, KY and Dianna Rice of Rush, KY, and three brothers: Chester Griffith of Grayson, KY, Carl Dean Griffith of Rush, KY and Cecil Eugene Griffith of Palm Bay, FL.

Predeceased by his son, Shawn McDowell, and step father, Frank Griffith

The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Monday, September 11 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church, 2147 Rocky Creek Road, Lucedale, MS with Rev. John Henry and Rev. Greg Barker officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Monday, September 11 from 9:30am-11:00am at Rocky Creek Baptist Church.
