Dr. Peter Elwood Dorsett, age 81, of Gautier, MS and New Orleans, LA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at St Margaret's At Mercy Nursing Center of New Orleans, LA.

Dr. Dorsett was born in Mobile, AL on August 14, 1940. He graduated from Lucedale High School in 1958, attended Millsaps College, then moving on to the University Of Mississippi School Of Medicine to receive his doctorate in medicine. He furthered his education at Harvard and Oxford Universities. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.

Peter was preceded in death by his mother, Hylda (Ford) Dorsett, his father, Adonis Elwood "Pete" Dorsett, along with his brother, James Augustus "Jim" Dorsett. His grandparents were Lula Roberts and James Augustus Dorsett, MD and Minnie Dulaney and Eugene Valentine Ford.

He leaves behind many beloved family members in Lucedale, the Jackson area, and other parts of the country. Dr. Dorsett made many friends in the USA and overseas who will miss his love of life, musical abilities, keen intellect, and wise counsel.

The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Sigler Funeral Home, 4248 Main St., Lucedale, MS with Father John  officiating.  Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Lucedale, MS.

Calling hours will be Sunday, October 31, 2021 from 1:30-2:00pm at Sigler Funeral Home, 4248 Main St., Lucedale, MS.
