Prentiss Clinton "Sonny" Brooks, Jr, longtime Lucedale, MS resident, passed away peacefully on 3/26/24.

Born on June 26, 1938, in Purvis, MS, he was the beloved son of Lillie Mae and Prentiss Brooks. Sonny lived most of his life in Lucedale, MS.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Brooks, his parents, Lillie Mae Brooks and Prentiss C Brooks Sr., his sisters Norma Coleman, Robbie Gilbert, and his brother Willie Brooks.  He is survived by his daughter Melissa Brooks Day (Daniel) of Ocean Springs, MS, two grandchildren, Maura Trochessett Freeman (Austin) and Morgan Trochessett, and his brother Carl Brooks (Janice) of Eufaula, AL.

Sonny moved from Purvis, MS to Lucedale, MS in 3rd grade when his parents purchased farmland in Lucedale on Coyt Brooks road. He graduated from Wade School in 1956 and proudly served in the Air Force from 1957-1961.  After honorable and dedicated service, he embarked on a 38 ½ -year career at International Paper Company, retiring in 1999.  A man of integrity, Sonny was known for his strong work ethic, dedication to his family, and a passion for Nascar racing. He leaves behind a void that can only be filled with the cherished memories of his warmth, guidance, and love.

A graveside service was held on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Magnolia Cemetery, 328 Mill Street, Lucedale, MS with Rev. Randy Salisbury officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Lucedale, MS.
