It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Cohen Holland, who passed away peacefully surrounded by love on November 26, 2023.

With a few un-notable exceptions, Cohen was a lifelong resident of George County, specifically the Central community. Known worldwide for his sharp wit, shenanigans, and tom foolery, Cohen went by many names. A few of the printable ones are Uncle Cohen, Daddy, Co-Nanner, Sgt Holland, Pops, Papa, Popsicle, Brother, and by one particular lady, Baby. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. However, nothing made him happier than a prank at the expense of a friend, brother, or cousin – or even a complete stranger (which our records show he actually never met).

Cohen worked many jobs. The ones we can remember are grain inspector, MS Dept. of Agriculture (watermelons) , and something to do with potatoes. He was extremely proud of the time he spent in the MS National Guard and made numerous priceless friendships.

He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, where he dedicated his time and service to God. He loved every moment of attending and fellowshipping there.

The visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Lucedale, MS. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, with graveside service to follow.

Cohen was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara Holland, as well as his parents, Charles and Lizzie Holland, and siblings Juanita Holland, Delma Holland, Sr, Charles Holland, Jr, Bill Holland, and Jerry Holland.

He is survived by his children Tim Holland of Lucedale, MS; Paige (and Barry) Tweedy of Las Vegas, NV; Becky Holland of Atlanta, GA; and Beth (and Eric) Page of Ocean Springs, MS – his grandchildren Heather (and Doug), Candice (and Josh), Bryce, Kierstin, Andrew, Brendan, Lizzie, Timothy, Sophia, and Joshua – his two sisters, Betty Lou Cochran and Shirley Kawaoka – two brother in laws, Steve (and Lyn) Smith and Rob (and Sandra) Smith - as well as multiple cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who he considered family.

Cohen's greatest joy in life came from the people he loved and the time he spent with them. He loved big and was loved big and will be missed by all who knew him.
