Robert Lamar Dowdy, of Hurley, was born in Crossville, Alabama on September 19, 1939 and died on
April 29, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Robert "Bob" Dowdy loved and served God with
his whole heart. He served in the Army National Guard Reserve for 8 years. He and four other men
opened Home Town Lumber and Supply, Inc. in 1986, after working at City Lumber as credit manager for
15 years. Bob served as the controller and Secretary and Treasurer at Home Town Lumber until he
retired in 2007. He was a member of Agricola Baptist Church where he faithfully served as deacon,
chairman of the deacons, and Sunday School Teacher. He also served on the board of directors at the
Home of Grace and served as a Gideon for many years. His family was blessed to have such a Godly man
as their husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was always quick with a joke, loved to give hugs,
and was a mighty prayer warrior.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Wilma Myrick Dowdy, son Rick Dowdy of Carthage,
MS, daughter Natalie Hall (Kenny) of Little Rock, Arkansas, son Bobby Dowdy (Amanda) of Hurley, MS,
and daughter Kim Boler (Eric) of Hurley, MS. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Landon Dowdy (Jackie),
Corey Dowdy (Megan), Anne Lea Dowdy, Reid Hall, Krista Hall, Laykan Dowdy, Chase Dowdy, Preston
Boler, and Peyton Boler and one great-grandchild, Lucas Lugo. He also leaves behind four siblings, Betty
Sue Fisher, Donald Wayne Dowdy (Patricia), Lillian Rothell (Bill) and Bruce Dowdy (Donna), as well as 2
sisters-in-law, Lois Myrick and Helen Clement and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will host a visitation at Sigler Funeral Home in Lucedale, MS on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 5
to 8 pm. Funeral Services and celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11 am with a
short visitation at 10 am. The family requests that memorial gifts be given through the Gideons
International or Agricola Baptist Church.
