Ruby Janell Vise was born in Lucedale, Mississippi, on Wednesday, June 21, 1933.  From an early age, she was trusted with a great deal of responsibility.  At the age of five, Ruby lost her mother, and she spent much of her childhood working around her family's farm in Agricola, Mississippi.  She did this while the country was struggling through the last years, of the Great Depression and throughout the turbulent years, of the Second World War.

She married her first love, Sidney Purvis, in 1949.  While married to Sidney, she had five children: Earl (Connie) Purvis, Pennye Grant, Connie (John) Canning, Edna (Ben) Ward, and Eric (Melit) Purvis.  With Sidney, she also expanded beyond her farming community and began to explore the country.  She visited every state in the Union with the exception of two.  Along with her love of travelling, she enjoyed writing and gardening.  She also had a love for music.  For years, Ruby filled her growing household with piano music.  She was also an active member of the choir at Agricola Baptist Church, for many years.

Ruby did not neglect her education.  She was able to obtain her GED, and complete three years of college courses, all while her children were attending college as well. In the process of completing her education, she took a leave, of her studies, to care for her beloved Sidney.

Throughout the years, Ruby and Sidney watched as their children grew to become successful adults.  Those successful adults then gave Ruby and Sidney many grandchildren, whom they would love and adore.

In April, of 1994, God took Sidney home, but with His grace, he provided another love to Ruby.  When Bill Mosley married Ruby, on February 29, 1996, he inherited not only a wife in Ruby, but also a host of children and grandchildren who welcomed him as a second father and grandfather.

With Bill, Ruby continued her travels.  They went on several cruises together and visited Alaska and Canada.

Throughout her marriage to Bill, Ruby welcomed many great-grandchildren into her life, and she adored every one of them.

On August 11, 2016, God took Bill home.  Although she missed him and Sidney, Ruby believed in God's promise that she would one day be reunited with them in Heaven.  That day came nearly seven years later, on Sunday, August 6, 2023.  On that day, Ruby Janell Vise Purvis Mosley's travels, in this world, concluded, and she was called home. While we mourn over her departure, we should rejoice as well.  On August 6, she was with Bill.  On August 6, she was with Sidney.  On August 6, she was with her mother.  On August 6, she was with Jesus.

Ruby is survived by five children: Earl (Connie) Purvis, Pennye Grant, Connie (John) Canning, Edna (Ben) Ward, and Eric (Melit) Purvis; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers: Hardy (Sandra) Devoe Vise Jr. and James "Jimmy" (Gussie) Vise; sister, Kay (Claude) Vise Passeau; her beloved dog, Lucy Jane Mosley; and a host of family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her spouses: Sidney Purvis and Bill Mosley; parents: Hardy Devoe Vise Sr., Ruby Thigpen Vise, and Nettie Mae Croom Vise; sisters: Helen Vise Flora and Willene (George) Johnson.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 10:00am at Sigler Funeral Home. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Sigler Funeral Home and again on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 9:00am to 10:00am at Sigler Funeral Home.
