On the night of January 7, 2019, Mrs. Syble McBay Bryan, age 97, of Houston, TX passed away at Memorial Herman Memorial City Hospital of Houston, TX just a couple of months shy of her 98th birthday. She was the eldest child of 4 daughters born to William Shelby and Hattie McBay of Lucedale, MS. She was born on the 13th of March 1921. She graduated from Lucedale High School in Lucedale, MS and attended the Perkinston Junior College in Perkinston, MS. She had to leave college to assist her mother upon the death of her father and go back to work in Lucedale where she later met and married the love of her life, Robert Grant Bryan of Yantley, AL. They married on March 24th 1944. She enjoyed traveling and playing bridge with her good friends, both at Chapelwood and the Houston Racquet Club, cooking, gardening, and fashion. She was always active and alert. Mrs. Bryan was both sugar and spice. She was an excellent cook, homemaker, and mother. Her sisters were Pansy McBay Cole, Jimmie McBay Bradley and Jo Ann Weaver. She had a son Cliff (Daphne) Bryan and daughter Carol Ann Bryan of Houston, TX. She had a grandson named Zach Bryan. Mrs. Bryan had loving nieces, Anne Owens of Houston, TX, Dr. Jane MacEachern of Covington, LA, and nephews, Gene Pollock of Chiefland, FL, and Craig Weaver of Brookhaven, MS. Mrs. Bryan loved all, but was proud of becoming an honorary "MeMe" to Katie and Caroline Owens, Taylor MacEachern, Emily Danehower, Jessica Tracy, and Erin Weaver. She shared her home and her love of a little dachshund named Snickers. Mrs. Bryan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Robert G. Bryan, formerly with Houston based Pennzoil Company; niece, Christine Danehower; and two sisters, Pansy McBay Cole and Jimmie McBay Bradley; sister-in-law, Dr. Sara Bryan; and nephew, Steve Pollock. Mrs. Bryan was many things to many people, but she was most valued by her loving family, friends, and caring neighbors. She had style, class, and a good sense of humor. She was a hard worker all of her life at every task she endeavored. She also made the best fried chicken anyone has ever tasted. Mrs. Bryan will be missed by every life she touched.
