Willie Mae Cubbage
Willie "Mae" Cubbage, 77, of the Crossroads community was called home on July 29, 2023,
after her long battle with COPD. She peacefully made her transition surrounded by family and
friends. Mae was born in Pascagoula, to Willie B and Fannie Miller. She grew up in many
places in Mississippi with her mom, dad, and six siblings. In April 1963, she married the love of
her life, Charles David Cubbage. They with their children moved several times from Colorado to
Wiggins, MS. but settled in George County in the Crossroads community for the majority of
their life.
Mae had several jobs in her life including working at the Head Start in Basin for many years.
She retired after 23 years of being a truck dispatcher from Reefer Truck Brokers in Lucedale, MS
but neither of these jobs was her calling in life. The main job and titles she was proud of were
Mom, Mawmaw, Maw, and Grandma, along with praising and being a servant of the Lord Jesus,
was her greatest enjoyment in life. She and David had four children and raised a grandson as
their own son for a total of five children. It gave her so much joy watching her family grow with
each new marriage and child added to the family. She was the most welcoming in-law and
friend. Mae was a friend, family member, Mother, and grandmother that would always be there
for you. She enjoyed the holidays and having her family come together. Until her health was
declining, she enjoyed worshipping with her church family at Crossroads United Pentecostal
Church at every service. Mae enjoyed a good restaurant also and could be seen frequenting
many local establishments and those along the coast with family and her special friend, Johnny
West.
Left to cherish Mae's memories and legacy of love are her children: Charles "Danny" Cubbage
and his wife Lisa of Ocean Springs, MS, Carlos Dewayne Cubbage and his companion Yvonne
Homan of Crossroads in George County, Charlene Delores Hilton of Crossroads, Cheryl Denell
Cubbage Gazaway and her husband Billy of Philadelphia MS, Charles "Dewayne" Cubbage and
his wife Whitney Hope of Rocky Creek in George County, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great�grandchildren.
Also left to miss her are her siblings: Mondale Hazel Moore Wallace of Edward, MS, Mary
Rowell of Union, MS, and Billy Wayne (Red) Miller and his wife Mary of Leakesville, MS.,
countless numbers of nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.
She has joined and is rejoicing in heaven with her husband, David, her mother and father, her
siblings, Shelby Jean McCurly, Jim Miller, Glenda Cassin, her niece Jamie and several in-laws
and friends.
Sigler Funeral Home in Lucedale is handling Mae's arrangements. Visitation and services will
be held Thursday, August 3, 2023, in the parlor of Sigler's Funeral Home. Visitation will begin
at 10 am with service starting at 11 am. Burial will be at Crossroads Free Pentecostal Church
Cemetery and fellowship will follow at Crossroads UPC.
