Yvonne Merritt Carter, 85, of Lucedale, MS passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025. She was a resident of the Salem Community.

All of her adult life, she was member of Salem Methodist Church, which she supported faithfully with her love, time, money, and a many a covered dish. She was also a homemaker, a cook, and taxi, which included many trips taking her girls and nephews to Cedar Creek during the Summer. She fully supported her girls, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all their activities…school field trips, band concerts, football games, soccer games, piano recitals, birthday parties, and anything else they had going on up until the past few years when her health started failing.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert Nollie Carter, her parents, John Luther and Mary Alice Merritt, her brothers, Jack Merritt and Luther Merritt, and her sister, Helen Williams.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Kim (Billy) Anderson, Debbie (Dwain) Brooks, her grandchildren, Joseph (Samantha) Schambeau and Nina (Bill Breland) Schambeau, and her great grandchildren, Brody Schambeau, Layla Breland and Carter Schambeau, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard & Ruth Carter, and numerous cousins, nieces & nephews.

A special Thank You to all of the wonderful ladies at Sparrow Hills for treating Mama/Mawmaw like one their own. You loved her and took care of her, and we will be forever grateful! Also, Thank You to Gentiva Hospice, especially Bailey, Debbie & Molette! We love you all!

Visitation for Yvonne will be Monday evening, July 21, 2025, from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm and Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 10:00 am-11:00 am. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Both the visitation and funeral services will take place at Salem Methodist Church, 26900 Salem Campground Rd, Lucedale, MS 39452, with Bro. Andy Cotton and Bro. Gil White officiating.

Interment for Yvonne will be held at Carter Cemetery on Section Line Rd. Joseph Schambeau, Bill Breland, Ronnie Williams, Lou Merritt, David Adkins and Danny Adkins will serve as pallbearers.
